A little WH40K diversion

My middle son wanted to do a 40K game, so we set it up fast on Saturday.

Here is the After Action Report, short and sweet.

the Grey Knights belong to my eldest
and it was my middle son that wanted to run them

my eldest has done some great 'wrecks' from
dollar store toy tanks
that we used as battlefield 'debris'
for this game

I was given this force of mechanoids
(I think they are called)
to command

While middle-son took on these
Grey Knights

even done in 'cartoon' mode this terrain piece looked great

Once again, there's a time-lapse of
this battle, with a few still shots put in
to make it interesting.

Grey Knight were the victors
and this photo worked so well
in many different runs of the
clip2comic that I wanted to share more

Have a great summer!

Warhammer 40K game

For his birthday celebration, my eldest wanted to use the table set up on some 40K game action.

Rainy day game

My son and a group of his fellow 40K players came over today and had an outdoor distanced game of 40K today.

The rain did not stop them from having a good days game.

My son's fully painted big models are starting to put on a good show

High Tech interlude

The Command and Conquer and Red Alert re-release on Steam was a big deal for our family.

I had the opportunity to beta test the game in 1995 while in Winnipeg and renting a room (and a closet full of computers - hosting a BBS) to a connected game player.  When we combined my basic military knowledge to the game inputs - BAM - a powerhouse was discovered.

We must have played for hours on that first set up, then after the release we figured out how to hack the connection of the computers via the printer hub and I joined the world of LAN parties.

Well, two of my older boys did get to experience the original game (before Windows operation systems changed too much and the game did not work any more).  Now though we have been able to head-to-head game in the old way and the fun has returned.

Along with the C&C my middle son has re-introduced me to Star Wars, Empire at War, with some amazing new mods that bring a new visual life to the game.

Needless to say this time usage has dropped my painting efforts, yet it has been great to connect this way with all three boys.  We will need to get another C&C copy for Steam, as we have a full 4 way game potential in just the house now.

Workbench: WH40K for my son

I had a little commission from my eldest son to do up some WH40K units for him.

some sort of battle angels - I was suggested Athena like uniforms - did them in white jumpsuits and silvery wings/jetpacks

the newbies

flame thrower crew

two veterans (one similar to the battle angels)

Command group with a flag bearer and an engineer

It was a fun little diversion to go into the sci fi world again.

Next up, looks like more ECW, likely Scots are looking ready to field some pike & shotte units, while the border horse is also ready to drop on the painting table.

Some rumblings of fantasy stuff are still out there with the Nanaimo crew, so I may be going through the storage and seeing what is there in detail.

More Pulp and a custom work

Been some time since I reported from my work table.

The many Bob Murch Pulp Figures and some '70's Ral Partha pulpy miniatures that Jeff had left to me, which he had started painting on before going into hospice, are now coming to an end.

some just seemed to team up on their own

others came as a league ready for details

then there were the other city folks

I then used 'green stuff' in a special custom conversion for a fantasy miniature request.

This was my first full-on conversion in many years and I am happy with the outcome and may be doing more in the future.

Finally with the green stuff used in many projects there are always small amounts left over, in the past I have used the 'extra' to build the improvised defenses for 16-19th century earthworks:

now I have started on doing some new works for the pulp genre, in a sci-fi or high-tech environment:

Some other bits were assembled into some early 'tech' objective markers:

Autumn is coming to an end in western Canada, certainly snow is already flying across the prairies.  Meaning more indoor activity focus.

For now the coming game will be ECW and the workbench is loaded up with replacement chess sets and there have been some sales this year.

Game on!

Wargmaing 101

A little video made by a Trumpeter Society member.

Giving a good overview of 'what is this miniatures war gaming'?

Many thanks to Terry Sawchenko for sharing the video link and Francis Munroe for his pose in DICE ROLLING!

Five minutes to share with your non-tabletop war gaming connections to help them understand.

Some Star Wars Minis

In preparation for sale at Rocket's store in Courtenay, here are some "May the 4th be with you" minis.

Mostly rebel heroes you can see Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie and the droids along with Obi-Wan.

All three boys have been asking about these minis and when they would be done and if they were going to 'get them'...

Of course so such game pieces would be Star Wars with out some "Revenge of the 5th" and some stormtroopers.

Some Troops Exercise

My Middle son wanted to get in a tabletop game before new years.

We did this little tussle between some French and Brits using Star Wars Miniatures Battles rules.

Very fast paced and done in just over 90 mins.
