Mini-Campaign Start Up

Outdoor setting for first session

Our first session of the 3 column mini-campaign is now in the books, I will be posting about the battle results later this week.

For now I wanted to go over what we have set-up as the campaign.

The prime mover for this game, who took command of the French, wanted a setup in Spain.  So off to the Peninsula we went in 1811.

Our fictional armies came straight out of the SHAKO II rulebook for pickup games, as did our terrain setup system.  The difference is that the players then had 3 commanders; a 1 messenger, a 2 messenger and a 3 messenger commander - to which they would have to assign a number of divisions, then the army list gave the battalions/squadrons/batteries available for those divisions.  So our first stage of action was to break up the battalions/squadrons/batteries into divisions then assign those divisions to a commander, then send them each off to the appropriate 'battlefield' A-B-C.

the quick sheet summary of the armies and plan

This took some time, and may have been a bit dull for the twitch viewers, yet it is the critical set of decisions to make.  I had a virtual player along with the three live players at the table - then each of us took on a division to command once battle was joined.

The 'join' of battle was done immediately after the A-B-C envelopes were sealed.

Battlefield C was the first one into action ...
